KNIFE CARE
All knives from Lazy S Blades are made from high carbon steel, O1 Tool, 1095, 1084, 80crv2 or 8670.
Knives made of high carbon steel need special care to avoid rust. The best care is to wash the knife with warm soapy water after use and dry it thoroughly. DO NOT put them in the dishwasher. After washing put a light coat of oil (3-n-1 oil or honing oil) on the blade with a paper towel or clothe. If the knife is not used often it is best to clean and apply a light coat of oil once a year.
Avoid acidic foods. Carbon steel reacts to acids a lot faster than stainless steel does.
Under normal use the blade will eventually darken in color, this is called patina. This is the carbon in the blade oxidizing, this is good. Various colors can be seen when this process begins, blues,purples, gray, brown or black. Anything but a reddish orange is good. The patina (darkening of the blade) will provide rust resistance not rust proofing to the knife.
Tip 1: Cutting raw meat or plantain skins will help the patina process.
Tip 2: If rust does become visible the following can help clean it;
Flitz metal polish / Barkeepers Friend / 3000 grit sand paper
