Two Generations with two different ideas of the KNIFE.

Lazy S Blades is the combined ideas and passion of Jerry Stewart and his son Dennis. Jerry has been fascinated with the Bowie knife since he was a child growing up in Mississippi. His first attempt at making a knife started the 1950s with an old propeller blade. At the time all the work was done by hand with a file. The blade has been through more than can be told here. Over time Jerry made many other knives but mostly of wood, still focusing on the perfect Bowie. Just before retirement Jerry started making working blades. The first commissioned blade was requested by Dennis. This blade was a small skinning blade, 12 to be exact, that would be given to family members (cousins) that hunted together. Shortly after that Jerry purchased a Burr King 960. He began making other knives, all focusing on his beloved perfect Bowie.
In 2019 Dennis began learning from Jerry. Together they spent many hours in the garage shop learning how to create a knife. In just a short time Dennis started making his own blades that were more on the hunting, tactical, bushcraft styles. In early 2019 a TW-90 (Travis Wuertz - Wuertz Machine Works) was added to the tool list. Now Dennis and Jerry could grind blades at the same time. Many weekends were spent learning to keep the bevels straight then heat treat to have a rugged blade. In mid-2019 Dennis had the opportunity to gain some knowledge from Charles Sauer near Lubbock, Texas. The knowledge passed to Dennis has helped him understand the nuances of blade making. None has been perfected but is always that little voice pushing him.
Today (2020) Jerry and Dennis work separately ONLY because to the Covid-19. Dennis has focused on the grind and blade geometry while Jerry focuses on the Bowie and leather work. Jerry has been making all the leather sheathes by hand, sewing included.

Reach out to Jerry and Dennis. They enjoy talking about knives regardless of the style. They are willing to try to create the blade of your liking and design or chose one of their knives. Each knife will be different. Each is hand made one at a time. Expect to see tool marks, these are rustic and/or working knives. Each knife will have its own character and maybe a bit of the makers blood.
